MediaDigest approved by Flemish Government

We received great news from the Flemish Minister of Media, Benjamin Dalle. MediaDigest, a joint-venture project with VRT, MediaHuis, Roularta and ML2Grow, got officially approved and received a more than 1 million euros grant to fund it.  Together with our partners, we will develop technology to make fully automatic summaries of texts so that news stories can be better designed from the source within a new multimedia context.

MediaDigest focuses on automatic summaries that will form the basis for creating new content. It wants to develop and validate technology that can condense a text into an understandable synopsis based on Machine Learning. In MediaDigest, the existing production and publishing workflows are transformed into hybrid semi-automated workflows with the help of the summary AI so that news stories can be better designed from the source within a new multimedia context. Experiments are also underway with innovative short-form story formats based on AI summaries.

The project will use NLP techniques using algorithms and models to analyze and understand natural language text. This can include sentiment analysis, named entity recognition, and language translation. One key application of NLP is summarization, which involves condensing a longer text into a shorter summary that captures the main points.

Overall, the project represents an exciting application of NLP and AI in the media industry.
